Way cool. Perhaps you will answer this question as you begin posting about this project but I’m impatient — are there certain states that have been more interested/doing a better job of preserving these structures? This is with the assumption that states have some input but perhaps they don’t.

Not from what I've found so far, no. I'm not sure how their funding works either, so it's difficult to determine who's doing a better job and where. The ones that have been demolished already are spread out across the country, so no clear pattern there either.

I think it mostly comes down to how useful the current building is and the cost to keep or restore vs start again. There's an argument that they were built for a purpose and if they can no longer serve that need, something that can should be put in its place.

Obviously not what someone, like myself, who admires the architectural style wants to hear, but I can see the point from a practical side!
